The trap and greyhound jacket colour coding is as follows: If a reserve comes into the field the letter ‘R’ is used on the racecard and the dog in question will also have an 'R' added to their racing jacket. When a dog becomes a non-runner due to injury or illness, a reserve can be substituted into the field but this doesn't always happen if there is not a suitable reserve available. Previously in the UK eight runners/traps were used on rare occasions but these races have now been phased out due to safety considerations.
